Ensure the business semantics of payments-not just data structures-are preserved across the migration.
This role bridges business logic, data integrity, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Domain Semantics
• Define authoritative meanings for:
o Authorizations
o Captures
o Settlements
o Reversals
o Refunds
o Chargebacks
• Clarify lifecycle state machines and invariants.
Data Contract Definition
• Define payment-specific:
o CRUD contracts
o Query expectations
o Reconciliation invariants
• Validate idempotency requirements.
Edge Case Validation
• Identify high-risk scenarios:
o Partial failures
o Duplicate messages
o Retries
o Reconciliation mismatches
• Validate that the new model supports these cases.
Compliance & Audit
• Ensure auditability requirements are preserved:
o Immutable records
o Traceability
o Reconciliation accuracy
Testing & Certification
• Participate in contract testing and workload replay validation.
• Sign off on domain readiness.
Required Skills & Experience
• 8-12+ years in payments domain (issuer, acquirer, processor, fintech)
• Deep understanding of:
o Payment flows
o Financial reconciliation
o Idempotency and retry semantics
• Experience working with engineers and architects
• Strong data literacy (tables, joins, event flows)
