Crash Course English Language Arts Subject Matter Expert

Language arts skills are some of the most essential things a student can learn in high school. If you are an expert in secondary ELA education and want to share your knowledge with others, you might enjoy being our freelance subject matter expert (SME) for Crash Course English Language Arts!

Crash Course, owned by Complexly, is an award-winning YouTube channel that invites students, teachers, and lifelong learners to tackle subjects they might have had trouble with or are curious to learn more about. Our videos take traditional classroom concepts and combine them with engaging and insightful narratives to help people learn and understand.

More details on the position:

Job Title: Subject Matter Expert

Status: Freelance

Location: Remote, US-Based

Pay: $650/episode for 15 episodes, plus $50/hr for meetings

Term: tentatively starting February 2026 - April 2027 (review of syllabus materials and scripts first; then later video review)

What you'll do:

As our freelance SME, you'll be responsible for reviewing the course outline for this Crash Course series. Additionally, you'll review script and video drafts for clarity, accuracy, and completeness.

You should have extensive subject matter experience in English Language Arts and related fields in order to effectively and thoughtfully organize and communicate it to learners. This is a team project, so having the ability to work effectively and respectfully with staff and other contractors is essential.

We want to hear from you if you have:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills
• Familiarity with core standards for 9th-10th grade students
• Experience working with Airtable
