Job Description for position of : CFO

THE PORTFOLIO COMPANY

This confidential portfolio company is a high-margin, multi-location laboratory testing business, offering quality, quantity, and environmental testing services across the U.S. The business operates through a simple and scalable model with 23 locations and generates $150M in revenue and $35M in EBITDA. With a 60% gross margin and ambitions to double EBITDA via strategic acquisitions, the company is preparing for a future exit. The current HQ transition to Denver supports a hybrid work model, empowering a largely remote leadership team while maintaining facility-level operational presence.

THE PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM

The Private Equity firm is a well-established investor with $4.4B in assets under management. The firm executes control buyouts and growth capital investments in the lower mid-market, focusing on companies with $10M-$150M EBITDA. Known for its hands-on yet founder-friendly approach, the firm prioritizes bolt-on execution, professionalization, and strong partnership with management teams. With deep operating partner support, the firm collaborates on transformational growth strategies and long-term value creation.

• Acts as a strategic partner to the CEO to drive commercial success and execute business initiatives.
• Develops visibility into financial and operational data to inform decision-making.
• Builds and scales a high-performing finance function, delegating transactional tasks.
• Drives M&A execution and integration to achieve EBITDA growth from $35M to $70M.

THE ROLE

The CFO will be responsible for:

• Serving as a strategic advisor and commercial partner to the CEO.
• Leading financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Building dashboards and KPIs for 23 locations to support operations.
• Leading acquisition diligence and integration, including financial systems and reporting.
• Reporting to the Private Equity firm on key financials, cash flow, and exit readiness.

• Provide accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis to the Private Equity firm.
• Close gaps in data-driven decision-making and analytic capabilities.
• Build a robust M&A integration and FP&A function.
• Operate effectively within a hybrid (or fully remote) environment.

YOUR BACKGROUND

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

• Experience as CFO with at least one Private Equity-backed exit (ideally two).
• CFO leadership in a multi-site Commercial services business.
• Strong M&A integration experience and commercial finance leadership.
• Proven ability to scale finance teams, processes, and systems.

LOCATION

Denver, Colorado (Hybrid: 80% remote, 20% onsite)

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

Basic Salary: $300,000-$500,000
Bonus: 50%-100%
