The Position

Under the general direction of the Recreation Services Manager, this position plans, promotes, and implements major functions of the District's recreation programs. The role provides highly responsible and technical leadership in the supervision of public and community-based programs, including special events, facility rentals, the community garden, and recreation classes. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with District policies and procedures, with additional duties as assigned. This is a Full-Time Salaried position and as such may be required to work more than 40 hours in a week, weekends, and evenings.

This position will be open until 1/12/2026; in-person only interviews will follow in January. Candidates to be selected in February of 2026.

Salary & Benefits

New employees generally start at the beginning of the pay scale. There is a one year probationary period, and most employees receive a step increase (5%) each year following. When budgets permit, CRPD also adds a COLA adjustment each July to all employees. Please note that this position is in person at our District Office. Employees of CRPD may qualify for hybrid work after 18 months of employment.

COMPENSATION: $34.44 - 41.86 Hourly DOE

HOLIDAYS: 14 paid holidays per year plus 1 personal day.

PAID VACATION: 12 days per year; increases based on years of service.

ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 40 hours per year.

PAID SICK LEAVE: 120 hours per year.

HEALTH/DENTAL/VISION PLAN INSURANCE: District provides fully paid premiums for employee and family for Medical (HDHP), Dental, and Vision plans.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP): Provided through CAPRI/Aetna.

RETIREMENT: Sacramento County Employee's Retirement System (includes reciprocity for employees with CalPERS) and Federal Social Security System.

LIFE INSURANCE: District paid premium for basic plan coverage for employee & dependents. Optional coverage available at the employee's expense.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: A 457 Plan is available for employees through Nationwide. District provides matching funds with an amount determined each fiscal year.

Essential Duties

  • Develops, organizes, promotes, and supervises District community events (i.e. Concert in the Park Series, Harvest Festival, Tree Lighting, Breakfast with the Bunny, Red, White & Blue Celebration, etc.).
  • Oversees facility rental operations of multiple facilities.
  • Develops, coordinates, and promotes special interest classes and programs for all ages (i.e. dance, tennis, soccer, first aid, etc.). Oversees independent contracted instructor agreements.
  • Oversees, recruits, trains and directs volunteers for the community garden, special events and other volunteer opportunities.
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and trains recreation staff, including Building Monitors; determining workloads and schedules, implementing & interpreting policies and procedures, and effectively evaluating staff.
  • Prepares and monitors program budgets and makes recommendations for generating revenue.
  • Purchases and maintains control of event/program supplies and equipment .
  • Advertise and promotes District programs through print and social media, i.e. activity guide, websites, flyers, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Prepare a variety of reports and other documents such as activity and statistical reports, promotional materials and agenda items; presents materials to interested groups.
  • Provides input into the development of budgets, including staffing and materials; solicits sponsors.
  • Maintains partnerships with neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, law enforcement agencies, volunteer and other non-profit groups and provides necessary coordination of services.
Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates will exhibit the below qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation or related field and/or a minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience in the recreation field with increasing responsibility.
  • Knowledge of basic theories, principles, and practices in the field of public recreation, research and reporting methods, and purchasing.
  • Skill in developing and implementing special events, tracking budgets, public relations, and marketing.
  • Ability to connect with stakeholders, business leaders, and community partners and recruit sponsors.
  • Posses strong leadership skills and the ability to utilize and direct staff and volunteers effectively.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule based on when special events/programs are scheduled.
