Position Summary:

The Milieu Manager is responsible for assuring that the facility runs smoothly, supplies are being ordered, concerns are communicated to the home office and for managerial oversight of Mental Health Technicians. The Milieu Manager consults with the Program Director and the home office regarding needs/duties to be completed and works closely with the Program Director when any issues arise. The Milieu Manager is also responsible for assuring that all activities at the facility are within the Discovery Behavioral Health's Mission.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assure that the facility is fully stocked, that needed supplies are ordered in advance, and manage related expenses to assure that unnecessary spending is not occurring. Provide feedback to the home office regarding any facility issues on a weekly basis.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the facility and facility vehicle. Will schedule facility or vehicle maintenance upon obtaining approval from the Program Director and/or Home office.
  • Perform/assign safety drills, completing weekly checklists to assure medication administration guidelines are met and assure facility is in compliance with licensing standards and Joint Commission.
  • Over-sight of Education Liaison/Case Manager to ensure compliance with educational or vocational requirements.
  • Complete and approve credit card expense reports and ensures timely submission.
  • Oversee the patient intake process, complete related paperwork, review and obtain signatures on all consents at the time of admission, send all necessary information to the Home office, assign additional duties to Mental Health Technicians as necessary. Oversee the patient discharge process and assign duties to counseling staff as necessary.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings on a weekly basis, keep notes and create the treatment team overview notes for staff review. Record keeping of treatment team attendance.
  • Run groups when necessary. Provide oversight of groups being led by Mental Health Technicians and lend assistance if needed.
  • Manage patient charts, ensuring new charts are opened when necessary, charts are audited and closed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the hiring process of new Mental Health Technicians, Nurses and Diet Technicians, with assistance of the Program Director; responsible for the completion of related paperwork and documentation; assist in the training of these new staff. Participate in and conduct staff performance reviews.
  • Manage staff performance reviews. Schedule to ensure that all shifts are covered, and staff are not entering into overtime hours. Oversee timekeeping system to ensure that all time cards are submitted to payroll in a timely manner and report any error or corrections to payroll as soon as possible.
  • Possess a complete and working knowledge of all staff job functions to be able to help, support, and, encourage team members. Will be responsible for covering Mental Health Technicians shifts when needed.
  • Ensures staff adherence to Infection Control Protocols.
  • Must be available to take on-call shifts.
  • Participate in and/or lead bi-monthly staff trainings with direction from the Program Director.
  • To help model good behaviors to patients will attend meals in the milieu when possible.
  • Serves as a positive role model to staff, patients, employees and guests through a positive, caring, and professional attitude.
  • Familiarizes self with the Philosophy, Mission, goals, and objectives of the Discovery Behavioral Health Treatment Program/s. Complies with all Discovery policies and procedures. Attends all designated meetings.
  • Maintains the confidential nature of patient and program related activities.
  • May be required to travel to other facilities to attend trainings from time to time.
  • Must demonstrate tact, initiative, resourcefulness, professional manner, enthusiasm, and nonjudgmental attitude.
  • Available to perform requested task and accept responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director and the Home Office
  • Direct care staff duties as assigned
Core Competencies:
  • Ability to run groups effectively AEB providing a check-in, engaging all members, and providing structure to group format.
  • Able to show effective writing and communication skills AEB documentation review, email timeliness, and verbal communication with staff and patients. Add timeliness with documentation.
  • Ability to support the milieu, following line of sight guidelines, engaging patients in program, and able to provide redirections as needed.
  • Ability to manage staff in a way that improves their ability to succeed on the job AEB creating a staff schedule, program schedule, and run a staff meeting.
  • Ability to lead a group of individuals at a multi-disciplinary level AEB overseeing the hiring, training, development, and day-to-day management of employees.
  • Ability to manage and have the knowledge of different operating systems including but not limited to Human Resource (HR), Microsoft 365, Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and Compliance software systems AEB submits documentation and inspections on a timely basis.
  • Ability to make and take responsibility for decisions in a timely manner AEB making decisions in alignment with policies, procedures, and company directives.
Knowledge, Education, & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or
  • Two years experience working within the mental health, counseling, or in a milieu setting preferred.
  • Must attend all training, education, and staff enrichment activities.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age due to the nature of work being performed.

  • Hand/eyecoordination: Performing work using both

  • Able to lift by raising or lowering an object from one level to another
  • The ability to respond quickly to emergency situations, which may involve running or moving rapidly.
  • Frequent standing and walkingfor extended periods, often throughout the entire shift.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety and PPE protocols.


Arbitration Agreement:
