Mark Thomas is hiring a Construction Manager for our Construction Management Division! The Construction Manager is responsible for performing the broad duties related to project construction management and contract administration. The Construction Manager provides oversight and direction to an assigned CM project teams and monitors the progress and budgetary/financial status of assigned projects and provides a greater level of client care, creating long term relationships. The Construction Manager is also responsible for the training (particularly safety), development and mentoring of direct reports, and to assigned staff to responsible projects. This role is expected to maintain a broad view of the project and communicate updates directly to both upper and lower levels of staff, clients, and sub-consultants in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains, develops, and grows existing and new business opportunities.
  • Leads CM teams to successful completion of construction projects.
  • Manages quality, budget, and schedule of responsible construction projects.
  • Engages with the preparation and presentation of CM project proposals and pursuits to include interviews.
  • Implements and maintains quality control procedures to manage conflicts, ensure accuracy and identify critical reviews and milestones.
  • Ensures safety standards and guidelines are followed on the job site and that all safety codes are met.
  • Communicates effectively to all levels within the organization and also externally with industry partners and clients, etc.
  • Develops and leads a cohesive team to achieve project objectives.
  • Creates and maintains positive, long-term client relationships.
  • Generates sufficient business to sustain and grow the region and division.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to monitor the progress of construction, review status of work completed, review that work is generally proceeding in a good manner and in general accordance with the approved drawings and specifications.
  • Reviews and approves consultant and contractor invoices and approves change orders to contract documents.
  • Performs the necessary functions and tasks to manage CM direct reports in an effective manner.
  • Partners with field personnel to handle and assist with project issues as they arise.
  • Participates in capture planning, contributes proposal strategies and proposal development, and attends interviews to win CM work.
  • Creates a network of industry business contacts for potential business development opportunities for the division; seeks out new and interesting business opportunities.
  • Performs quality control measures and audits quality control measures for project work.
  • Assists in identifying new projects, markets, project planning, workload and staffing, and other related matters for Construction Services.
  • Participates in recruiting activities; attends networking and targeted recruiting events, and identifies and refers CM talent in the marketplace.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in Civil or Construction Engineering.
  • 10-15+ years progressively responsible experience in construction management.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license required; or PE in another state with the ability to obtain CA Licensure within one year; Certified Construction Manager a plus.
  • Demonstrated client and project relationship management.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver scope of work to the agreed project schedule.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.); knowledge and experience with project management software and P6 preferred.
  • Competent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project financials and metrics.
  • Possesses the ability to chase, sell, and secure project work with new and existing clients.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.

The offered base rate of compensation (California locations only) is based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
