Position Overview


We are seeking an MV Service Specialist responsible for performing warranty repairs, technical support, and extensive testing of SMA MV products. Duties include MVT core testing; troubleshooting, repairing; analyzing data, operations, and maintenance activities for Large Scale MV Products. This role involves working with medium/high voltage electricity and maintaining excellent customer service performance.


Primary Duties / Responsibilities



  1. Testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and analyzing SMA Large Scale MV systems in the field, via email, telephone, and site visits. Must be familiar with high voltage test equipment and understand the results from such equipment.

  2. Developing detailed knowledge of SMAs Medium Voltage products, including associated SMA and third-party accessories.

  3. Familiarity with DGA sampling and interpreting DGA reports.

  4. Maintaining accurate inventory of spare parts provided by SMA.

  5. Working with high voltage DC, three-phase power, high AC voltage, and related software/firmware of SMA products.

  6. Maintaining high customer satisfaction while striving to lower field service costs.

  7. Collaborating with the Global Service Organization, Quality, and Suppliers to provide Root Cause Analysis of failures and keeping customers informed of RCA status.

  8. Performing maintenance activities in accordance with SMA manuals on assigned sites, fulfilling contractual obligations.

  9. Possible weekend and/or night work depending on customer requirements.

  10. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  1. Bachelors degree in a technical field preferred.

  2. Basic Medium Voltage Diagnosis Testing Certification highly desired.

  3. Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical, electronic, and/or network communications.

  4. Minimum 3 years of experience with Medium Voltage equipment.

  5. Experience with Cold weld patch repairs and field transformer repairs.

  6. Knowledge of pad-mounted transformers, Medium Voltage Terminations, and switchgear operation preferred.


Preferred Qualifications



  1. Ability to work nonstandard hours occasionally to support customer service contracts. Knowledge of solar and/or alternative energy markets preferred.

  2. Knowledge of the National Electric Code preferred.

  3. Advanced knowledge of power plant measurement devices and techniques preferred.

  4. Effective problem-solving skills required.

  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  6. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; ability to stand, walk, talk, hear, observe, and lift up to 50 pounds.

  7. Experience interfacing with German counterparts for technical assistance and attending meetings.

  8. Work environment includes field service with exposure to electrical hazards and weather conditions; noise level is usually moderate.
