Accounting Technician

Novellus Living is accepting applications for a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Technician to provide broad support across the accounting department, with a focus on general ledger maintenance, payroll journal entries, and accounts payable. This role is ideal for someone who is well-versed in transactional accounting but also enjoys contributing to month-end closing and financial reporting processes. This is a collaborative role within a small but high-impact finance team. The ideal candidate is proactive, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining accuracy and efficiency across all accounting functions.

Work Schedule/ Shift

Monday - Friday, while this role is currently remote, the position may require regular in-office attendance should we resume on-site operations. Candidates should be located in the Sacramento, CA area.

Compensation

$28.00/hour DOE

What you'll do:

General Accounting Support

  • Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, reclasses, and adjustments
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including payroll-related liabilities and accruals
  • Support internal audits and respond to documentation requests
  • Maintain organized records and documentation to support financial accuracy

Accounts Payable

  • Process invoices and expense reports, coding accurately to GL accounts
  • Schedule and process payments in accordance with company policies
  • Communicate with outside vendors and community employees to resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain vendor records, including W-9s and payment preferences
  • Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end reporting

Payroll Accounting Support

  • Record and reconcile semi-monthly payroll journal entries
  • Monitor payroll-related GL accounts, including taxes, benefits, and withholdings
  • Audit payroll activity for posting accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with HR or payroll processor for accurate reporting

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent experience
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, including journal entry and reconciliation work
  • Familiarity with payroll accounting (even if not directly processing payroll)
  • Experience with accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred)
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, basic formulas)
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize competing tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
